RYSE - A hotel for creative individuals in the heart of Hongdae, Seoul, South Korea.
We were lucky enough to spend New Year 2019 in Seoul with our friends, to see in 2020 with a bang (before corona virus restricted travels).
The hotel is a hub, marketplace, creative paradise for all things art and culture. We also loved that the hotel put such a great emphasis on sustainability and you can see this in their "zero project" with the products they buy and place in the rooms.
We booked the RYSE as part of the Marriott Hotels, which we chose to become members of on our recent travels (as we were so impressed with many of the hotels we stayed in, especially the W Hotels). This led us to the RYSE... and we were so excited after checking it out online! Not only that, on arrival myself and my partner were upgraded to a suite which I believe was one of their "Producer Suites" oh OH MY, it was heavenly!
The Room
I mean, THE ROOM, was incredible. You can't even call it a room since it was actually a Suite.
Not only did we have our own dining and living space, but the bedroom was adjoining with King size incredibly comfortable bed, which looped around into the most amazing Bathroom. Serious bathroom goals... a gorgeous elevated bath tub, in a terrazzo-tiled bathroom, rain shower, and simple light-effect circular mirrors - the facial mask was a great touch! Honestly, if we could make this room our apartment, we would. Incredible interior, and we could have bathed in the tub for so many hours... Check it out below...
The Club
We Spent the start of our New Year's Eve in the hotel Club - Side Note Club, which is influenced by Brooklyn, NYC. The vibe was great, the music was hilariously jammy with old school tunes bringing in the New Year, and the cocktails were delicious!
We went out onto the terrace open-bar area to countdown to midnight, where the deck was laced with little hanging lights and featured Blow-up Igloo's! Take that for a Winter Wonderland!
The Area
The area of Hongdae is beautifully cultural and youthful! With all the trendiest fashion brands located here, bustling markets, underground clubs and the art university, we were spoilt for choice on things to do!
We saw the rest of the New Year in singing our hearts away in true Korean style, at the Karaoke Bar! Followed by a stop-off in the selfie-studio to bring home some PhotoBooth memorabilia with us!
In the area you can also find the Harry Potter themed "943 King's Cross Harry Potter Cafe". We had our New Years Day lunch here and it was really fun. Lots of HP merchandise and even the menu is Hogwarts themed!
We also loved the nearby cafe "The Famous Lamb" who serve on-site brewed coffee and serve breakfast buffet style.
