Marini's on 57, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

We were fortunate enough to be spending an overnight stay in Kuala Lumpur after our Malaysian adventure! As we were celebrating our 1 year together, we decided to look on a swanky restaurant to honour the occasion...and I am a sucker for a sky bar!

We found great reviews on Marini's on 57, and the panoramic views of the Petronas Twin Towers looked insane!

The views were just that...

The Food

Ready for the best fine dining Italian experience, in a trendy but sophisticated interior setting, we happily accepted a window-seat table (only the best views). I love that Marini's offers a high-end Italian dining experience. We are suckers for traditional, no flares, Italian meals; but to offer a fine dining experience of one of our favourite cuisines was really fitting for the occasion!

We started with some wine, which in my opinion was overpriced for the quality (as with most of the places we visited in Malaysia). They served us a surprise amuse-bouche hors d'oeuvre of truffle arancini hanging from a decorative tree, an unreal a ball of flavour!

For our starter we ordered the Capesante - Pan-seared Hokkaido scallop with macadamia nuts, parsnip, black truffle & champagne foam and secondly, Oysters. Both incredibly delicious starters, and I remember being pleasantly surprised by the flavour of the parsnip (as I am not usually a huge fan!). All perfectly presented, and the dishes explained by ingredients on arrival to the table. I must admit, I have read multiple reviews on the service of the restaurant falling short of expectation, but thankfully, we received really attentive and personal service during our meal so I cannot complain on our experience - it was really professional and high-end.

For our main courses - we ordered two of our favourite things, meat and pasta!

The in-house, homemade tagliatelle was served with 32-month old Parmesan cheese and black truffle (outstanding). And the braised Wagyu beef cheek was served with celery root, wild mushroom and Parmesan. Mouth-watering, our taste-buds were going crazy! We really recommend all of these dishes.

We didn't choose to order a dessert at this point, as we were happily full with our servings. However, the restaurant surprised us for our anniversary celebration and brought us bite-size treats including rich chocolate truffles! What a delight! We loved the message of the quote they wrote for us too - its the little things that really count!

"Life is a journey, and love is what makes the journey worthwhile" -

One of my personal favourites.

Overall our experience was exceptional! we had great service, breathtaking views and outstanding food. It really made our evening of dining in Kuala Lumpur so so memorable.

The one thing I will say is that the prices are on the high side, so plan an expensive trip for this occasion, but with that you get a stunning, fine dining experience.

The only negative we could mention on this review, from our own personal experience, was related to the restaurant and bar rules. The dress-code stated formal attire, smart dress (shirt for men), but didn't (at the time) mention rules on formal shorts. My partner was wearing a very smart shirt and chino cream shorts (because the weather was honestly sweltering outside). He looked very formal, and we have been for meals to other fine dining restaurants before, and this attire has passed the mark. However, on this occasion, he was given a pair of smart black suit trousers on arrival. We didn't take offence or dispute, and he simply slipped them on over his shorts (though they were a little uncomfortable). We didn't over-think this at the time, until we arrived at the restaurant from the elevator up to the 57th floor, and there was a table right next to us wearing sports tracksuits and sports sneakers (the latter noted on the list of non-wearable items). Whether designer tracksuits & sneakers or not, we did find this offensive. This is something the restaurant really should improve on, we were happy to follow the rules on arrival. But if its a rule for one, it should be a rule for all - locals or not.

Thank you Marini's on 57 for a great Italian fine-dining experience, whilst looking out at the skyline of Kuala Lumpur! We thoroughly enjoyed our time with you and the little special touches you made to make our meal so memorable really impressed us!
