INK Hotel, Amsterdam

A Boutique M Gallery Hotel, steeped in rich History.

We were so excited to start our Staycation Series in Amsterdam with no less than the Urban Glam hotel INK. We had passed by the hotel on many occasions, its sleek dusty-black exterior really draws your eye to the renovated building. Little did we know, quite how soaked in history this building really is!

Situated in the heart of Amsterdam, between Dam Square and central station, the street that the hotel is located on, used to be a series of newspaper publishers. The building which now houses the hotel, used to be home to Dutch newspaper "Tijd" (The Times) in 1904, a place where stories were created and ultimately printed...what better place to start our staycation story?

This luxury lifestyle experience gives urban travellers a stay in what is almost a modern-day exhibition of the past. The hotel walls are covered in old news prints, with fully functioning type writers dotted in several locations. Typography of all kinds draw your attention to walls, ceilings and even your menu. The detailed interior design is something quite special - patios and light tunnels at every turn. We wanted to mention a few discoveries about the M Gallery hotels, a collection within the Accor Hotels group. Each hotel is designed to be unique and tell its own story - inviting guests to immerse in tales of adventure, romance, history, culture and nature. They thrive off telling "stories that stay" rich in their meaning of each hotel setting.

What I love about M Gallery is also their focus on the "female traveller" and their project "inspired by her". Take a look at their website to learn more, but the concept is to dedicate their hotels to making women feel welcomed with gestures and considerations specific to women's needs when travelling - such as little hotel room extras or female travel essentials (to avoid you packing a heavy suitcase!).

Mixology @MGallery

Mixology us also at the heart of the M Gallery experience - and INK is well known for its "INKreadible cocktail". Each cocktail around the globe provides a story - this one clearly linked to the paper print publishing, with edible Ink!

The PressRoom

We dined in the Pressroom for dinner and brunch. Our dinner was A la carte and we enjoyed the simplicity of the menu. The quality of the meat was tender and delicious, and I personally really enjoyed the potato puree that was served with the beef tenderloin. We also ordered the chicken chefs special which was cooked to perfection. We ended the night with the apple & berry crumble and Cheese platter to snack on in our room.

Bottomless Brunch

Our staycation included Bottomless brunch which offered one savoury & one sweet dish per person, with accompanying unlimited bubbles. The service we received throughout both of our meals in the pressroom was really impressive - from waiting staff to bar staff, it was so personal and the they all took a genuine interest in us and wanted to give us the best possible experience.

The Room

On arrival to our room, the hotel staff decorated our bed with balloons and heart shaped chocolates - the little things really make a big difference in making you feel special! We received a welcome bag packed with Amsterdam's own Tony's Chocoloney goodies, a "INK" bike bell, stroopwafels and a useful kit with facemasks, hand sanitiser and wipes.

We stayed in the Deluxe room which had an artistic take on the Amsterdam Map drawn across the wall, which gave a playful twist to the room - we found ourselves laughing at some of the comments!

The room had many elements of interior we wanted to use as inspiration for our own home...I loved the little Amsterdam house buttons on the sofa and the copper industrial furnishings used in the bathroom and bed. The White Company supplies were a welcomed touch!

We spent the whole day in the hotel with early check in from 12 o'clock, through to 5PM late check out the following day. This was great for us to set up our work spaces in the hotel room and order in a room service lunch in the comfort of our own space.

We had such an enjoyable staycation here at INK Hotel, and it felt as though we had escaped the city and day-to-day routine of working from home.

Thank you to Rob, Mieki, Dirk, the bar and Kitchen staff for the most pleasant weekend. We loved reviewing you and can't wait to return soon!
