Made up of 5 canal houses on the famous Jordaan canal, this delightful hotel is filled with antique finds and fantastic quirks.
We cant wait to share our recent Staycation at the Hoxton Hotel in Amsterdam with you...

The Hotel
The interior is just as charming as the crooked exterior houses that the hotel is comprised of. With exposed brick, and an industrial underground entrance (with old school photobooth - yes, its fully functioning and you may end up here in the early hours of the morning with some great memorabilia of your stay...). There is so much character to enjoy, everything from the miss-matching rugged sofas and rugs to the wall decor or vintage fayre showcase cabinets at the reception. It feels like your grandmas retro living room has been given a shake up and placed inside a very hip hotel with hanging plants to bring an earthiness indoors. The vibe is so upbeat! The hotels act as an"open house" and boast that the lobbies are the beating heart, with cosy spaces bringing locals and guests together as one.
The Hoxton Hotels pride themselves off being inspired by diversity and originality of the streets surrounding them, and you really can feel that in all of their locations.
The fact the hotel is on the Nine streets (or 9 Straatjes) just added to our love for this hotel, as its our favourite area of Amsterdam! Full of cute little cafes, Bars and Boutique shops.
The Room
On entrance to the room, after passing through the dimly lit corridor with flash patterned carpets and singular door lighting, you get a sure sense of nostalgia as the old school radio is playing the likes of "son of a preacher man". There was a retro radio, telephone and alarm clock mixed with cosy decor of more exposed brick ,copper piping and vibrant colours throughout the room. We loved it! Especially the brown leather headboard for the very sizeable bed that we slept dreamily in!
Not to mention, the stunning canal view we were so lucky to enjoy (even better on the morning when we enjoyed our breakfast in bed with coffee, watching the boats pass by). The 1930's style bathroom was also adorable! We purchased 2 of the Hoxton Mugs to take home with us to enjoy a cup of tea with our complimentary Stach chocolate.
The Food
Lotti's - The Staycation actually includes €50 towards your food or beverages and due to the 8pm curfew in the Netherlands on alcohol consumption, we decided to drink our cocktails in the restaurant rather than the bar (being a little pushed for time). Though if you do have the time, definitely enjoy some drinks whilst sitting at the bar and chat away to the bar tenders as we usually would! Because its such a pleasant environment to relax in (and they have live music on a weekend)...we even came to the Hoxton Bar for drinks on Christmas day, we enjoy it that much! If you prefer more privacy and quiet, there is additional seating upstairs with maisonette style open space.
We put our voucher towards dinner at the Bar & Grill restaurant (Lotti's) and we both ordered the Grilled Atlantic salmon with blanched vegetables, lemon & vanilla condiment and a side of truffle sweet potato fries. We have eaten at Lotti's on a few occasions and also recommend the Hox burger or free-range crispy chicken! We then ended the dinner with a flamed creme brulee and Cheese board (which we took to our room). Cocktail favourites were the espresso martini (I literally always end a meal with this for dessert!) and Parfum de Provence cocktail (St Germain elderflower, tio pepe fino sherry, orange blossom water thyme & Champagne). The restaurant is cosy, bistro-style with more of a home-cooked warm dinner vibe, than a swanky fine dining experience. Perfect for a cold Autumn/Winter retreat.
Room Service
Recently, we have really enjoyed the delights of room service and really taking the time to rest and rejuvenate on a morning. For this reason, we opted for breakfast in bed! Ordering the Scrambled eggs on Sourdough. Though the breakfast menu includes a great range of avocado dishes, french toast, granola - the works! We were ready for something a little lighter! (but the portion was still large!) Very tasty.
Thank you to the Hoxton Hotel Amsterdam for having us stay for the night to enjoy a staycation and write a review! We can't wait to come and visit again soon!
