A stunning historical building with contemporary interior in the heart of the city. Located in Dam square, with gorgeous views of the Royal Palace.

The Hotel
The Hotel dates back to 1855 and is steeped in history that you will fall upon during your visit - a 150-year old building founded by Adolph Wilhelm Krasnapolsky (who first opened a coffee house here).
Next to every room door you will see a copperplate with an image dating way back when... even the breakfast mugs have a story to tell you!
But the interior of the hotel is quite glam, simple and contemporary with some brighter colours mixed in with traditional warm classics.
Dining
The White Room - Exclusive dining experience at Michelin Starred restaurant - in the listed 19th-century room of the White Room! Some of the Staycation deals include dining experiences in the restaurant, check out their website for current deals and see our previous Blog post for full review on our dining experience! Stunning.

The winter garden - Breakfast in the fabulous 19th Century room!
The unique glass ceiling filled the room with light, bouncing off the green and blue leafy room. We were welcomed with a Krasnapolsky tea blend and seated to enjoy our food.
The chefs buffet had so much to offer, warm foods in full English breakfast style. The cold buffet served everything from a mix of healthy smoothies and homemade granola to fresh fruit and continental goods. The chef also cooks eggs as you like them! (from the menu). We went for the omelette and poached eggs - & honestly, it was the best omelette I have ever tasted!
The setting and service made the breakfast a true highlight for us! And the setting was so glorious - I would say the best surroundings I have had breakfast in for such a long time!

The Bar
The Tailor - Bar snacks and cocktails, with outdoor courtyard and lounge area. The service was impeccable here - we chatted away to 3 or so waiters whilst enjoying our pre-dinner cocktails. Everything is themed around "tailoring".
From the menu to the interior (with large scissors on the walls!). The story follows 22-year old A.W. Krasnapolsky in 1856, arriving to Amsterdam with a tailoring diploma in his pocket...After securing a job at "Winkel Van Sinkel" following his father and grandfathers footsteps, he then took over a coffee house - that would become the Grand Hotel as we know it today!
We went for the "Tranquil Transition" (be ready for a lavender surprise...) and the tropical "Pachamama".
Everything thus plays tribute to the founder. Our bar tender James Chaib actually won best bartender in the Netherlands (2019) and the photos don't do the cocktails justice... heavenly and so creative! Bubbles, Light impulsive effects, changing colours! You name it...
I matched mine with Oysters before our dinner at the White Room.
See here, James making the "Cloud of smoke" cocktail.
The Grand Cafe - This was closed when we stayed, due to covid-19 restrictions. They usually serve up coffee, snacks , lunch and dinner here with views over the bustling Dam square. It has a Parisian Brasserie vibe and opens up onto The Champagne Room. We can't wait to return and review dinner and drinks here when lockdown is lifted!
Room Service - We ate our dinner earlier than usual, with the lockdown rule of 'no alcohol after 8pm'...and we certainly didn't want to have our Michelin* dinner without wine pairing.
So we were ready for a little "midnight feast" later in the evening and ordered a scrumptious Pizza and fries to share in the room - As delicious as it was, we couldn't help but think our room service cloche (Dinner plate silver lid) was judging us...

The room
The rooms were newly renovated and contemporary in style. The interiors are a warm palette of warm reds, blacks and golds which was perfect for a cosy Autumn Staycation! We had a semi-open bathroom with walk-in waterfall rain effect shower. The room was simple, and given the stellar price we were paying for our staycay, including breakfast, we were more than happy!

Thank you so much to the Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky for such an exquisite stay. We loved our staycation with you and it really felt like we were on a vacation!
Everything moment, from our drinks in the Tailor Bar, to the dinner at The White Room, and our Brunch in the Winter Garden... We really enjoyed every minute!
We look forward to returning again soon!
