We wanted to begin our blogging adventure with the very first hotel we stayed in as a couple. With it being our first Valentine's Day together, we couldn't wait to get away, by the coast, to enjoy a weekend of luxury and sunsets. Grand Hotel Huis ter Duin did not disappoint!

Located on the highest dune in Noordwijk, its clear to see why the hotel is namely "Grand". From the marble lobby with grandeur staircase, to the views straight through to the beach, every element of the hotel is simply stunning. One of our favourite and most memorable moments was when we entered The Van Diepeningen Lounge for an evening tipple, and a pianist was entertaining the evening guests. We enjoyed the evening entertainment with a glass of Monkey 47 Gin and fevertree tonic, toe-tapping to the melodies of the piano. We also took an afternoon break for an Aperitif the next day in the terrace bar, sipping on Aperol Spritz, whilst the sun glittered on the waves.

The Room

We stayed in the "Charming" Large room, with sea view. Honestly, I could have stared at the view for days. A panoramic glance across the stunning coastline, with direct views of the hotel lawns, Terrace Bar and Breakers Beach House. Not to mention the sunset...

The Room was spacious and elegant. The warm colours complemented the interior of the historic hotel and I won't lie, we love a great bath tub! So accompanied with a bottle of Ruinart champagne, we enjoyed a relaxing bubble bath during our stay. The following morning, we took a fresh dip in the swimming pool, with Sauna and Steam rooms.

Breakers Beach House

This really was the highlight of our stay. Aside from the stunning nautical interior, and central log fire, the food and atmosphere was so wonderful!

A walk through the terrace and lawns of the hotel brings you down to the beach, where the Victorian-style Breakers sits.

Inspired by the American Long Beach, the restaurant feels so different to the Hotel in a refreshing change of scenery that allows you to have multiple experiences throughout your stay. The menu is focused on fish, and since we are great fish and seafood lovers, we were thrilled! A mouthwatering serving of Oysters & Salmon, followed by a Baileys and Espresso Martini by the fire.

The hotel also offers dining in Restaurant Latour (Michelin Star since 2005, serving surprising food combinations) and Brasserie La Terrasse (Serving Brasserie classics with a twist).

Nearby

Branding Beach Club - we went here on the night of our arrival for a couple of drinks on the beach, gazing at the sunset. It was casual and family-friendly, but also quietly romantic on an evening.

The Winter Lodge - Lodge Noordwijk was our choice the following morning for Brunch, the food was great and venue boasted gorgeous earthy interior, but if you do go on a weekend, expect a busy environment with lots of families and children. Did not disappoint, but we had to queue for a table.

Overall

Thank you Grand Hotel Huis ter Duin for such a wonderfully romantic, sophisticated, heartwarming stay! We can't wait to come back to visit you and try more of your restaurants - Your exceptional customer service was outstanding throughout our stay! A Coastal Haven.
